Consider supporting some of these great orangutan charities.

At International Animal Rescue we do exactly what our name says – we save animals from suffering around the world. Our work includes cutting free and caring for dancing bears in India, rescuing primates from captivity in Indonesia and sterilising and vaccinating stray dogs and cats in developing countries. Wherever possible we return rescued animals to their natural environment but we also provide a permanent home for animals that can no longer survive in the wild

OVAID has been set up by Orangutan Vet Nigel Hicks and his wife Sara to raise funds to provide veterinary aid where needed in Borneo. Our efforts will be concentrated on providing both veterinary equipment and supplies as well as related mentoring support etc. where most needed. Initial NGO’s we are helping are Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP), particularly at Samarinda and International Animal Rescue’s Orangutan Centre (IAR) at Ketapang, where the centre is still developing and expanding and Orangutan Project, Matang. Whilst we both volunteer regularly in Indonesian Borneo, we hope to also provide veterinary mentoring by funding veterinary surgeon’s skills on site in the near future.

Established in 1991, the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation is an Indonesian non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of the Bornean orangutan and its habitat, in cooperation with local communities, the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry and international partner organizations.

The BOS Foundation is currently taking care of almost 750 orangutans with the support of 400 highly devoted staff, as well as experts in primatology, biodiversity, ecology, forest rehabilitation, agroforestry, community empowerment, education, and orangutan healthcare.

Project Borneo formerly Orangutan project is a conservation company offering alternative solutions and sustainable funding opportunities for the endangered wildlife on Borneo. We also specialise in ethical volunteering and tourism experiences working with the magnificent orangutan and other protected species such as the clouded leopard, binturong, sun bear and false gharial, among others.

Richard Zimmerman is the Founding Director of Orangutan Outreach, a New York-based non-profit organization whose mission is to save the critically endangered orangutans and protect their rainforest home. Richard grew up in Southern California, where his love for orangutans was fostered by frequent visits to the Los Angeles and San Diego Zoos. His passion was reignited years later when he was living in Barcelona and made regular visits to the Barcelona Zoo to see Snowflake, the legendary albino gorilla. It was in the enclosure around the corner from the gorilla that Richard first set eyes on a giant Cheekpadder male orangutan named Moe. Richard spent many afternoons sitting near Moe, who was always alone, sitting silently on a barren slab of concrete with little enrichment and no companions.

Animal Assist are an experienced team of environmental and animal welfare advocates. We are passionate about protecting wild places and all that inhabit them with a particular focus on ethical, grass roots organisations. Although our main focus is in Asia, we are always looking to expand our capacity to provide help where it is most needed.
