Pauline Cameron
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
I retired 5 years ago after working in the government and then became a natural therapist specialising in aromatherapy and ran my own business for 17 years. Whilst on a cruise I attended the social art classes on board and realised I could make something identifiable with a brush and some watercolours. I had always wanted to follow in my mother's footsteps and paint so I looked for a class to see if I had inherited any talent. My teacher assured me you did not need to be talented to draw or paint. I was hopeful and was inspired by the teacher and other students. I started with watercolour and now have found pencil very satisfying. At this stage, I haven't exhibited any of my work and I am hopeful that one day I will be able to exhibit my love for animals in my art.
ARTIST'S REASON FOR PARTICIPATING

I am a grandmother of two amazing boys, aged 14 and 9. I want them to know that I did all I could to stop the orang-utans from being wiped out by humans. For their Xmas gift we adopt on their behalf and they choose who they want as their adopted orangutan.
I have donated paintings for causes close to my heart. I believe we need to educate people about environment and wildlife issues. Art is a way of receiving attention and emotive responses which can highlight the cause more effectively than words alone. I believe all artists have the power in their hands to help educate and motivate people to help our endangered wildlife.

ARTIST'S REASON FOR PARTICIPATING
Our planet is in need of constant preservation and care. It is our duty to do this in any way one can. The rainforests and the animals are part of an eco-system that needs to be preserved for future generations. Through exhibiting my art at my free will is a gesture of respect to portray my concern and love for the preservation of our beautiful animals, such as the Orangutan, that make up a part of our planet.

BANDUT

The Bedtime Baby Turned Forest Boy
Bandut was rescued on 28 April 2011, when he was just one and a half years old. Found in a small town a few hours from Ketapang, he had been raised by a childless couple who treated him like a human infant—fed a diet of milk and rice, and even slept in bed with his adoptive “mother.” They claimed to have found him by a riverbank as a newborn, umbilical cord still attached, with no mother in sight—an unlikely but not uncommon story among those who acquire orangutans illegally.
Despite their good intentions, Bandut arrived at International Animal Rescue’s centre lacking the forest skills essential for survival. Fortunately, he was in good health and showed remarkable resilience. He quickly embraced his new orangutan-friendly diet and began exploring his surroundings with curiosity and courage.
Bandut was initially placed in baby school, where he showed a strong interest in human caregivers, but soon he graduated to the juvenile group. Though hesitant at first, he adapted quickly, making new friends and standing his ground among the bigger orangutans. Bandut is now thriving and well on his way to mastering the skills needed for life in the wild.
