JACK

The Jungle Jester
When Jack was just a baby, his mother was killed by a poacher who hoped to sell him on the pet market. Thankfully, his life took a better turn when the manager of a bauxite mining company took pity on him and gave him shelter alongside another orphaned orangutan, Ledi. Their conditions were basic, but their lives changed forever when International Animal Rescue (IAR) stepped in.
Rescued on December 16, 2010, Jack arrived at the IAR centre in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, full of energy and curiosity. He and Ledi were already confident climbers and quickly took to Baby School, where they learned vital forest survival skills. Jack formed strong bonds with orangutans like Bandut and Bunga and soon advanced to the juvenile group, thriving with more space and enrichment in the forested areas of the new centre.
Over time, Jack's playful personality and quick adaptation have made him a favourite among staff. Though there is no public confirmation of Jack’s release into the wild yet, he continues his rehabilitation journey at IAR, honing his skills with every swing and nest.
