Pamela Tippett
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Painter Pam Tippett studied at Studio Simi in Florence Italy between 1977 and 1980. Her realist still life paintings depict isolated domestic objects in staged interiors. Tippett has held solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and internationally in Italy and France. She was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Study Grant in 1978 and the Coffs Harbour Eutick Memorial Still Life Award in 2010. Her work is held by several major Australian regional galleries.
Originally from Lismore and a Bachelor of Science graduate from Sydney University, Pam Tippett’s formal studies in drawing and painting were undertaken over three and a half years at Studio Simi in Florence where her training taught her ‘to see’ and gave her the skills and techniques admired in her paintings. She is perhaps best known for her beautifully and painstakingly executed still life works, however, she is equally proficient in portraiture and landscape.
A Goulburn local for around ten years and now still living in the region, Pam regularly exhibits at Australian Galleries Sydney and Melbourne, she was an Archibald finalist in 2004 and 2011, was the winner of the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award in 2010 and she has been a finalist several times in the Portia Geach Memorial Award. This exhibition will consist of mostly new and recent works in the still life genre but will include older works in a variety of genres as a survey of past years of her practice.
ARTIST'S REASON FOR PARTICIPATING
When Jess told me about this project I thought that this was a chance to to help, in a practical way, some of our fellow creatures who are in desperate circumstances due to human activities and greed. There are so many species which are endangered because of us, that it is easy to be overwhelmed by their plight. So I welcomed this as a way to spend time (metaphorically speaking) with an individual orangutan, Sinta, and her friend and hopefully contribute in some small way to their well-being and that of others of their kind.

CINTA
Strong-Willed, Sweet-Hearted, and Ready for Anything
In 2011, Cinta arrived at International Animal Rescue’s (IAR) Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Ketapang as part of a large intake of 11 orangutans. She was one of several adult females, alongside Pingky, Neng, and Suki, relocated to the centre as IAR expanded to meet growing rescue needs.
Her name, Cinta, means “love” in Indonesian—a fitting reflection of her close bond with other orangutans, especially her friend Mona, who she often cuddles with.
Cinta may have a sweet name, but she’s known for being feisty and destructive—a trait the staff quickly discovered when she became the first orangutan to test the strength of IAR’s brand-new large socialisation enclosures. Her playful energy and physical strength made her a perfect trial for these reinforced habitats designed to hold even the most clever and dextrous individuals.
Despite her antics, Cinta is gentle and easier to handle than many of the older girls, which made her a model for early integration in her new home. She’s now settled and thriving, engaging daily in play and enrichment with her fellow females, swinging through ropes, and developing her forest skills.
Though she may not be wild yet, Cinta’s journey is one of slow, loving progress—a perfect blend of resilience and heart.
