ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
I have recently rediscovered my love of drawing again, and along with fine black pen, sketching and crayon i have introduced myself to watercolors. I would say apart from doing art classes in high school many years ago, i am self taught. As for the birds... i cant really say why i paint so many, i just love them! I like nothing more than finding birds of interest and adding my personal style, vibrant colours and a sometimes awkward look about them.
I am a Pre-School Teacher by trade but now work in a public school. So art/craft has always been a big part of what i do. Maybe i should have been a children's art teacher Hmmmm
ARTIST'S REASON FOR PARTICIPATING
I have chosen to participate in your project as not only is what your doing a great cause and more people should know about it. But its a great way for me to push myself out of my comfort zone and challenge myself.
I chose 'Lady" because to be honest i loved the way she was sitting with such a care free demure about her...such a lady!

LADY

The Forest’s Wise Watcher
Lady arrived at the International Animal Rescue (IAR) Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Ketapang in December 2010 when she was about one year old. Very little is known about her life before rescue, but since joining the centre, she has proven herself to be one of the most inquisitive and socially savvy orangutans in the group.
Lady is always the first to inspect anything new—an enrichment puzzle, a fresh bunch of leaves, or a newly built platform. Her curious and observant nature makes her a keen learner and a natural forest school student. She spends most of her time climbing high into the canopy, exploring the forest with the juvenile group. Lady is not just a skilled climber and nest builder, but also a peacemaker who gets along with all the other orangutans.
At forest school, she learns vital survival skills like foraging, nest building, and navigating the treetops, as well as the all-important social skills needed for life in the wild. She and her friends enjoy searching for hidden snacks left by the keepers in the forest and practicing their independence one branch at a time. Lady is a quiet success story in the making—steadily preparing for her own return to the wild.
