About Jessica Warwick

Jessica Warwick grew up in Bowral, in the picturesque Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia. Surrounded by lush countryside and an abundance of wildlife, she developed a deep appreciation for nature and animals from an early age. Growing up on a farm, she formed a close bond with a diverse array of animals, fostering a lifelong passion for their welfare and conservation.
Her love for wildlife extended beyond her rural upbringing as she embarked on extensive travels around the world. Drawn to the natural world amidst the energy of bustling cities, she sought out zoos and animal sanctuaries wherever she went. It was during one of these journeys, on a visit to Dublin Zoo, that she experienced a life-changing encounter with a juvenile orangutan. The young primate engaged with her through the glass, creating an unforgettable connection that solidified her commitment to orangutan conservation.
In 2014, Jessica spent a month volunteering at the International Animal Rescue Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo. This transformative experience deepened her understanding of the critical challenges facing orangutans and their habitats. Witnessing firsthand the dedication of local teams working under difficult conditions with limited resources reinforced her determination to support conservation efforts in a meaningful way.
During this trip, she met Nigel and Sara, founders of Ovaid, a charity providing vital medical aid to orangutans. Over the past decade, she has worked closely with them, volunteering across Indonesia and Malaysia and contributing to their mission. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when travel was restricted, she took the opportunity to collect lifesaving medical equipment, which she and her husband later transported to multiple orangutan rehabilitation centres in collaboration with Ovaid. She continues to support Nigel and Sara’s work, ensuring their efforts have the greatest possible impact.
Combining her love for animals and art, Jessica is now dedicated to raising awareness through creative initiatives. She is proud to bring incredible orangutan-inspired artworks to a wider audience with the invaluable support of Ovaid Australia, led by volunteer Marion Wall.
